Hi Rachel,
Congratulations on receiving interest from both agencies!
Helen Wells Agency and SCE Agency are both established agencies in the Midwest and have been around for many years. They are known for representing talent for commercial modeling, print work, television, film, voiceover, and promotional opportunities. Both agencies have experience working with talent of various ages and backgrounds and have built relationships with clients throughout the region.
SCE Agency is known for its commercial and print modeling opportunities and also operates as a mother agency, helping develop talent and, when appropriate, introducing them to larger markets and agencies. They are a good option for talent looking to gain experience and build industry connections.
Helen Wells Agency has a long-standing reputation in the talent industry and represents models and actors for a variety of commercial, print, and on-camera opportunities. They have worked with both new and experienced talent and are well known throughout the Midwest market.
As with any agency, be sure to review any agreement carefully before signing and ask questions about commission rates, exclusivity, and expectations. If either agency is interested in representing you, I would consider that a positive opportunity worth exploring. Representation is only the first step—the key is remaining active, available for auditions and castings, and continuing to build your experience and professional network.
Keep me updated on any offers or contracts you receive, and I'll be happy to help review them with you.
Kind Regards,
Roberto

Reviewed the PMTM Agency Contract - MAPS Studios

Inquiries Studio <inquiries@mapsstudio.nyc>

to Rachel
Hi Rachel,
I reviewed the PMTM Agency contract, and it appears to be a legitimate agency agreement rather than a training contract. The agreement gives PMTM exclusive representation rights in Ohio for one year, automatically renewing unless canceled within the specified notice period. They earn a 20% commission on modeling and talent-related income and require all bookings to go through the agency.
A few important points to be aware of: PMTM can use your name, image, and likeness for agency promotional purposes indefinitely; they receive commission on work obtained through the agency as well as work you may secure yourself that falls within the scope of the agreement; and if a client fails to pay, the agency is not obligated to compensate you for that booking. The contract also includes a binding arbitration clause, which limits disputes to arbitration rather than court proceedings.
Overall, the contract contains many provisions commonly found in modeling and talent agency agreements. However, while PMTM appears to be a legitimate agency, it is also known for offering training and development programs. I recommend asking whether representation and submissions for work are available without purchasing any additional classes or coaching services, as this can help determine whether the primary focus is representation or talent development.
Kind Regards,
Roberto

Hi Roberto,
Are you familiar with the Chicago Sustainable Fashion Week? I attended the casting call for Aesch Liman Co. and got selected to walk in the show on 4/26. I wanted to get your thoughts as this might be my debut as a professional model!

Hi Rachel,
Sustainable Fashion Week Chicago is a legitimate organization that hosts real fashion events with a focus on sustainability and community involvement. It is important to understand, however, that it is not a major, high-fashion industry platform like New York or Paris Fashion Week, but rather a local, independent event that can be beneficial for gaining experience, building your portfolio, and networking. Opportunities like this can be valuable, especially early in your career, but they are not typically direct pathways to high-level agency placements. As always, be mindful of the details—such as any fees, expectations, or compensation—and ensure everything aligns with standard industry practices before moving forward.
Kind Regards,
Roberto

Hi Roberto,
I just received an offer to sign on with ARC Talent Group and am attaching the contract to this email. Please let me know what you think! I personally think the $1,220 development fee is justified given they’ll be providing 6 professional photo shoots within the first 6 months and I will have access to 1:1 sessions and/or small group workshops with various coaches in modeling, physical health, acting, make-up artists, etc. FYI - I’ve also started working through the commercial modeling class with PMTM but have not yet signed with them.
Best,

Hi Rachel,
This is another development Agency. Their main focus is to develop talent as opposed to finding you work. All that training is not necessary; however, it is up to you if you feel comfortable moving forward with them.
My advice to you is to get signed with an agency that is focused on submitting you to projects. Not Development Agencies requiring money for courses.
Best of luck, do let me know how it turns out,
Roberto

Hi,
Thanks for providing the pictures and z-card along with setting up the website! I have changed/uploaded more pictures to the website gallery myself and wanted to request a couple of changes to be made to the z-card.
1. Please use the attached file named Rachel Hwang-02.jpg as the main picture in the front of the z-card. Please put the rest of the attachments in the back.
2. Please update my email address to rachelh.model@gmail.com for both the z-card and all future email communications.
3. In addition, my instagram tag is _r.h.folio_
4. I have a question on the measurements: You measured my underbust for chest. Should there also be a section for topbust?
Thank you,
Rachel Hwang
Response email
Hi Rachel
Thank you for your email.
I have updated your Zcards with the lovely images you sent, however, the industry requires a full length image so keep that in mind. I have attached your zcards below.
The chest measurement for women is taken directly under the bust. When attending fittings you will usually be asked about cup size, so that is fine.
Unfortunately there is no allocated section for your Instagram handle on the zcard but the website allows you to link your instagram account through the social section.
I have also updated your email address on your account.
Have a lovely day.
Warm regards
Neil

Nothing here is tagged as Email AI — and it would not be:
no note in the CRM carries an AI marker, and there is no automated author among the 246

The moment Email AI stamps what it writes (anything will do — an [AI] prefix),
its messages appear here and every past thread re-sorts on the next gather.

Hi Roberto,
I did sign with PMTM as it was a legitimate agency agreement for representation. However, given it’s limited to the Ohio market, which is really slow, I’ve applied to more local agencies and got callbacks from two: Helen Wells Agency and SCE Agency. I’m currently leaning towards signing with SCE given that I’m based in Chicago and the agent is more responsive, but wanted to run the two names by you before making a decision. Please let me know any insights on the two and what you think!

Hi Roberto,
I just had the follow-up call with PMTM and it sounds like the plan they set for me is to train me to be successful in commercial modeling. Do you mind reviewing the attached curriculum and letting me know what you think?
On another note, I’m planning to connect via another phone call with them tomorrow and want to confirm their general contract terms (commission %, exclusivity, etc.) prior to locking into the class. Would you agree that’s a good idea?

Rachel Hwang

Hello Rachel,
There are a lot of unnecessary classes on there; however, every location has its own process. It would be a good idea so you learn the ins and outs of the industry. You can ask them any questions you like as far as representation and commission.

Hi Roberto,
Thanks for the insight! That is very helpful. Just to have a proxy, how much do classes usually cost? I’m trying to gain a general sense for how much I should seriously consider investing upfront in case that comes up in the conversation.
Thanks again,

Rachel, acting classes can vary quite a bit depending on the level, location, and instructor, but here’s a clear, realistic breakdown:
Beginner group classes: about $25–$100 per class or $150–$500 for a 6–8 week course
Monthly studio classes: typically around $150–$350 per month (once a week)
Major cities (NY/LA): often $250–$650 per month
Private coaching: around $50–$250 per hour
Intensives or high-level programs: can range from $500 to $2,800+ depending on reputation
Simple takeaway:
A normal, legit acting class is usually around $200–$400 per month
Anything way above that (like thousands upfront) should be looked at carefully

Roberto

Hi Roberto,
I’ve completed the so-called audition with PMTM yesterday and have a follow-up call scheduled with the casting director today. During our conversation yesterday, she recommended that I go through a relatively quick training/development period (I think mostly for commercial acting) of roughly 1.5 months and then hit the ground running with bookings after that. Does that sound reasonable to you? She hasn’t mentioned anything about upfront costs but I wouldn’t be surprised if she brings it up during the follow-up call today (scheduled for 4:30pm CT). I was hoping to get your thoughts on this before hopping on the call with her if possible. Would it be worth considering if they guarantee representation post-development even if it requires upfront payment? I’m also thinking of asking if there is an option to essentially “pay back” development costs as I start getting booked through them instead of paying out of pocket now. Let me know your thoughts!
Best,
Rachel Hwang

Hi Rachel,
For acting, training is definitely essential. And yes, they will charge you for classes. No one gives acting classes for free. If you are interested in doing commercial work and having a chance to book principal work, training would be suggested. If it is just modeling for photos, then it is not necessary. I have taken quite a few acting classes in the past, and it helps build confidence and get used to being in front of the camera. It helps learn how to land that job and how to adapt on camera on the fly.

Hi Roberto,
Thank you for the information. They did not mention or recommend that I take/pay for any of their classes or coaching services when I connected with a representative over the phone today. Do these types of sales-like conversations typically happen during the audition? Also, what would be the best way I can confirm representation?

Hello Rachel,
If an agency is interested in representing you, they will clearly communicate that and provide a formal representation agreement for you to review and sign. This is typically sent via email, allowing you time to download, carefully review the terms, and return it at your convenience.
What PMTM may have conducted with you was an interview rather than an audition. Auditions occur when you are invited to be considered for a specific job. Agencies that represent you are responsible for submitting you to castings, although you may also submit yourself independently through reputable casting platforms.

Roberto

Hi Rachel,
PMTM Agency is a legitimate, established modeling and talent agency that has been operating since 1989 and is BBB accredited. However, they follow a development-focused model, which often involves upfront fees for classes, coaching, or photos. While they do place talent, it’s important to be cautious and avoid paying for services before confirming representation. A reputable agency typically earns through commissions on work booked, not mandatory upfront payments.
Kind Regards,
Roberto
